Was Saquon Barkley the Right Pick?

Over the past week, I’ve been trying to formulate my own thoughts on the Giants taking Saquon Barkley a running back at number two. It seems to me that there is two trains of though on the matter.

The first group of fans are the ones that wish they didn’t pass up on one of the available quarterbacks such as Darnold, Allen and Rosen. They are obviously in the right to feeling upset because the Qb position is the most important position on the football field.

The second group of fans were the group that just wanted to get the best overall talented player that would help the Giants hopefully right away and help Eli finish his career on a right note hopefully.

I would like to think leading up to the draft I fell in both groups depending on the day. But the more I think and look at the pick even though taking a Running back at number two isn’t always a smart move. I think Barkley has all the tools to be a great player on the field and a even better person off it from everything I’ve listen to and read to this point.

I love the fact that he is a all around running back. He can run between the tackles, run outside, catch the ball out of the backfield and the most important thing I believe is he is great at blitz pickup which seems to be very rare these days especially coming from rookie running backs.

I also feel that he was a very big part of bringing back the Penn State Football program from the depths of hell that they deserved to be in after the whole Sandusky scandals. He basically took the team on his back and help them win a Big Ten Title in 2016 and almost beating USC in the Rose Bowl, but he rushed for 194 yards and scored for two touchdowns that day. Unfortunately the pick after him Sam Darnold threw for five touchdowns that day.

Lastly I feel with this pick the Giants are showing everyone that the Giants are in it to make one or two more runs with Eli as their qb. I fully support and behind it 100% with all the improvements that they had made on the offensive line and the receiving weapon and now Barkley. Eli has little to no excuses to not carry this team to hopefully another playoff run. I feel with them trying to be more balanced offense which we haven’t seen the Giants have done in quite some time is going to be huge for Eli and the Giants. Now we just have to hope Saquon has a productive and healthy career with the Giants!
