In this segment, Angel demonstrates how to make vegetarian Caribbean delights! She makes vegetarian canoas, rice and beans, and tembleque for dessert.
The ingredients needed for the canoas (Spanish for Canoes) are vegetarian crumbles – can substitute with ground meat, ripe plantains, tomato paste, yellow onions, garlic, cilantro, adobo, salt & pepper, and cheddar cheese.
The ingredients for the rice and beans are long-grain white rice, vegetable oil, salt, tomato paste, a can of pink beans, garlic, yellow onion, olives (pimento-stuffed), pieces of potatoes, oregano, cilantro, adobo powder, salt & pepper, facon (optional).
The ingredients for the tembleques are 2 cans of coconut milk, cornstarch, cinnamon, sugar, salt.
These recipes serve as a wonderful base for any rice and bean or ground meat dish you might want to make with a Latin flair. Enjoy the show and we will see you in the next episode. Bon appetit!
