Behan’s Take: Giants Game-Day Giants-Lions

Are you ready for some football?!?! I sure hope the Giants are ready for tonight’s Monday Night football match-up vs the Detroit Lions! Tonight is going to be a fun night as it is the home opener and at half time they are doing a special tribute for the 10 year anniversary of the Super Bowl XLII Champions!

Tonight is not a must win but it is pretty damn close to being one. The giants are looking to not start off 0-2, especially going on the road the next two weeks in Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. Our pre season dreams of being a contending for a Super Bowl run will  go down the toilet real quick. Enough about that, tonight is a new game and hopefully Coach McAdoo and company learned from there prior mistakes vs. Dallas last Sunday night and is ready to regroup vs. the Lions. Pretty much similar keys I gave in the Dallas Preview is the same I’m giving in tonight’s matchup.

  1.  Will Odell Beckham JR. suit up tonight and play? As of 11:40 am he is still a game time decision. It will be all about how his ankle reacts to the pre-game warm-ups. If he isn’t able to go for the second straight week , the giants must do a better job in getting Brandon Marshall involved into the offense early and often. One catch for 10 yards is not going to cut it again.
  2. Can the offensive line give Eli enough time to set up the passing and running game? Last week, the O-line wasn’t able to protect either and it greatly showed. Hopefully with another week of practice, they will be able to pick up the blitz and stunts from the Lions all night long. I would love to see the offense be able to stay on the field longer then they did vs. Dallas. This will help the defensive get their rest vs. the Lions very solid offensive team.
  3. Can the Giants defensive line get pressure on Matt Stafford? I think with the limited running game the Lions have, it is going to be real important that the Giants front 7 gets pressure on the newly highest paid quarterback in the NFL. We have all seen the bad side of Stafford forcing passes up that can lead to turnovers. Why cant tonight be any different?

Matchup to Watch-   DE- Ziggy Ansah vs LT- Erik Flowers! If you are living under a rock and don’t know that Flowers has unfortunately been the weakest link on the Giants offensive line, its time for Flowers  to show some promise and not looked like a turnstle going into a subway. Ziggy is going to use his speed which is hampered by his knee issue that kept him out for most of the preseason, so hopefully the Giants use that to their advantage.

Score Prediction- Giants 24- Lions-20.  It finally happens, the Giants score more then 20 points and finds away to keep the defense on the sideline and the offense showing some life!
